Saturation Discovery for the Next Generation of Pain and Inflammation Therapeutics
Despite heavy pharmaceutical focus in this therapeutic area, there remains a clear need for novel non-sedating analgesic medications for both neuropathic and nociceptive pain. Further, more effective oral therapies with safer side-effect profiles are needed for a broad range of chronic inflammatory conditions. Cannabinoid signaling has been intensively explored as therapeutic mechanism for a variety of indications including analgesia, obesity, nausea/vomiting, and neurodegenerative diseases. However, current cannabinoid-based therapeutics are limited by their CNS side effect profiles. Kalypsys is using Saturation Discovery to identify novel, non-sedating small molecule modulators of the endocannabinoid pathway for the potential treatment of neuropathic pain, inflammation and related diseases.

This effort has led to the identification of potent and selective agonists of the cannabinoid receptor, CB2, which are efficacious in models of acute pain. Investigation of chemical modulators of multiple additional targets within this biological space is ongoing. Back to top
