The technology behind epiK
The centerpiece of the Kalypsys suite of technologies is a proprietary state-of-the-art, fully automated ultra-high throughput robotic screening and profiling system, the Kalypsys System. This technology enables scientists to evaluate targets in 1536 well-based biochemical and disease-relevant cellular assays. As currently configured at Kalypsys, the system can access on-line storage of over 2 million compounds and generate up to 1 million data points per day. The technology supports drug property profiling, including assessment of ADME and safety characteristics. The platform is extremely robust, and is easily customized for other uses, including assays of biologics, prokaryotic organisms and large macromolecules in addition to small molecules. It can be used to assay targets ranging from specific receptors and enzymes (GPCRs, kinases, nuclear receptors) and to investigate complex cellular pathways and primary human cells. The customizable high density format automation technology can be combined with the ability to simultaneously parallel process multiple assays. A proprietary package of informatics tools allows the user to rapidly analyze and assess results and make informed decisions about a particular target quickly and across different types of screens.

Satisfied Kalypsys’ customers include a number of prestigious organizations including The National Institutes of Health, Los Alamos National Laboratories, The Scripps Research Institute, Florida and Merck Research Laboratories. Kalypsys is currently working in collaboration with Panasonic Factory Solutions Co. Ltd. for the development and commercialization of next generation drug discovery systems.
