Saturation Discovery for the Next Generation of Metabolic Disease Therapeutics
Novel approaches are needed to discover safe and effective treatment options for metabolic diseases such as diabetes and obesity. To this end, Kalypsys is using Saturation Discovery to interrogate multiple GPCRs integral to the biology of glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1). GLP-1 is a peptide hormone which has been implicated in a wide range of disease states including diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, obesity, the regulation of glucose homeostasis and appetite- control and weight loss.

Through the use of Saturation Discovery, Kalypsys has verified GPR119 and TGR5 as being pharmacologically relevant targets that control GLP-1 secretion. Kalypsys is currently optimizing orally bioavailable small molecule GLP-1 mimetics based on these two targets for the treatment of Type II diabetes and obesity.
