The Kalypsys Board of Directors is comprised of distinguished leaders with a wide range of backgrounds and expertise. An integral part of the Kalypsys team, the Board focuses on Kalypsys’ direction, prioritization, strategy, and risk and asset management.

Shehan Dissanayake, Ph.D. (Chairman)
Shehan Dissanayake is the Chairman of the Board of Kalypsys. He is the CEO of Tavistock Life Sciences (TLS). Dr. Dissanayake oversees all of TLS’s operations and portfolio companies, including its investments in Eidogen, CovX, and Kalypsys. Prior to joining TLS, Shehan served as Partner in Charge of Strategy and Business Planning for Andersen’s Global Tax, Human Resource, and Legal operating unit. He received his B.A. in Biology and Chemistry at Skidmore College and a Ph.D. in Cell Physiology from the University of Chicago. Dr. Dissanayake is a native of Sri Lanka and an avid footballer and fan. Back to Top

August Watanabe, M.D. (Vice Chairman)
Dr. Gus Watanabe is the Vice Chairman of the Board of Kalypsys. Dr. Watanabe retired as Executive Vice President, Science and Technology, Director of Eli Lilly and Company, and President of Lilly Research Laboratories in June 2003. Prior to joining Lilly in 1990, Dr. Watanabe had been a full-time faculty member of the Department of Medicine of Indiana University School of Medicine from 1972 to 1990. During his tenure at Lilly, the company was recognized for having the strongest pipeline of potential new drug products in the pharmaceutical industry. During the last three years, Lilly has more than doubled the number of new drugs it has on the market. While with Lilly, he served for six years as the Chairman of the Science and Technology Section of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturing Association of America (PhRMA). He is the Chairman of the Board of BioCrossroads, a Partner in Twilight Venture Partners (TVP), and a Director of Guidant Corporation, QuatRx Corporation, Endocyte Corporation, Reliant Corporation, Ambrx Corporation, the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation, the Indiana University Foundation, the Regenstrief Foundation, the Indiana State Symphony Society and Christel House International. Aaron Davis
Aaron Davis is employed at Tavistock Life Sciences (TLS). Aaron shares responsibility for supporting TLS’s public market activities as well as assisting in the review and diligence of new investment opportunities. Mr. Davis’ background is primarily in Investment Banking, as he worked at UBS Warburg in the Global Healthcare Investment Banking Group and Private Equity Group. During this period, he gained extensive experience working with private venture-backed biotechnology companies throughout their growth process of financing and development. Mr. Davis has also worked on numerous transactions focused on advising public and private biotechnology and medical device companies on financings, mergers, acquisitions, and strategic transactions. He graduated from Emory University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and Columbia University with a M.A. in Biotechnology. Back to Top

Andre Fogarasi, J.D.
Andre Fogarasi is a consultant for Alvarez and Marsal Tax. He formerly was the Managing Director of Arthur Andersen’s Office of Federal Tax Services and Director of U.S. Tax Competence. During his twenty plus year tenure at Andersen, Mr. Fogarasi held many critical positions, including Global Head of the international tax service line and International Tax Partner.   Prior to working at Arthur Andersen, he worked as a Special Assistant to the Under Secretary of Treasury for Tax and Economic Affairs at the U.S. Treasury Department. He is also a board member of the Tax Foundation, the Tax Council and the board of NYU Continuing Legal Education. Mr. Fogarasi is a former adjunct professor at the Washington College of Law at American University in Washington, DC; and the former Chairman of the Board of the Montgomery County School Foundation. He holds a J.D. from the University of Connecticut and a L.L.M. degree in Tax Law from the NYU School of Law. Back to Top

Chris Fuglesang, Ph.D.
Dr. Chris Fuglesang is employed at Tavistock Life Sciences (TLS). He joined the firm in 2005 and has responsibilities for portfolio intellectual property, the management of existing portfolio companies, and the identification of prospective public and private investments. Prior to joining TLS, Dr. Fuglesang was Vice President at Eidogen and a practicing attorney at Perkins Coie LLC in their biotechnology practice group. Dr. Fuglesang received a B.S. in both Chemistry and Physics from the University of California at Los Angeles, a Ph.D. in Theoretical Chemical Physics from the University of California at Los Angeles, and a J.D. from Boston University. Suzy Goldberger

Isy Goldwasser
Isy Goldwasser is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Symyx Technologies. Mr. Goldwasser first joined the Symyx project in 1994 and became their first employee in 1995. He is also on the Board of Directors of Syrrx, Inc. Mr. Goldwasser received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from MIT in 1992 and his M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University in 1994. . Vijay Lathi
Vijay Lathi is a Managing Director of New Leaf Ventures Partners. He has been with New Leaf since its founding in 2005. Prior to New Leaf, Mr. Lathi was a Partner at the Sprout Group, which he joined in 1998. He also worked as an Analyst in the Healthcare Venture Capital Group at Robertson Stephens & Co. and Cornerstone Research.  Mr. Lathi graduated from MIT and Stanford University where he received his B.S. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering, with an emphasis on the application of engineering to life science technology.
